VR is going to be used by 1/3 of global consumers by 2020. The opportunity for brands to leverage the uniquely engaging experiences VR can offer is incredible. Here are a few tips to understanding why…

1. It greatly engages your senses - part of your brain really thinks you’re in a new environment. You’re hearing, seeing, moving, and balancing in a new place and imprinting those emotions into the memory of that new experience; very powerful.

2. Your stories are being lived - VR goes beyond storytelling, breaking the fourth wall, putting the viewer in the middle of the action, no longer a mere observer; truly feeling.

3. The user is giving their full attention - attention spans are lower then ever with the instant gratification of social media, apps, phone games… VR is like an alternate reality pushing the user to focus and commit to the immersive experience.

4. VR can take people to amazing places - the ability to transport someone across the world, to imagined realms or different times is magical and unlike anything. Whatever you can dream, can be experienced, including the ability for brands to show consumers things that don’t yet exist.

5. VR is versatile - brands have different budgets and objectives which might be met with a simple 360 video, easily digested on social media and headsets. On the other hand, there’s the opportunity to create remarkably rich interactive content for high-end headset like the HTC Vive.

The ability for a brand to be fully experienced in VR by its potential consumers, to shape their perception, is truly game changing. With the current trend towards affordable mobile VR, mass adoption is just around the corner.

First of all, VR has to fit your brand or product - don't try to force jumping on the VR bandwagon if it doesn't make sense. Many businesses will still benefit most from traditional linear media like a short film, interview, or commercial. Trying to fit that same experience into VR doesn't make sense. However, if you want to deliver a 360-degree narrative, or a virtual hands-on product demo, then you can really leverage the technology.

ROTU just had the most amazing first couple days of motion capture sessions, with remarkable talent, and overall it was a huge success, though we learned so much during the process, so here are a few tips:.

The main piece of advice we got beforehand was to prepare - That means we got as organized as possible, knew exactly what we were shooting and in what order, and what everyone’s job was on set. All the technology was synced, tested, and set-up properly before we got going with any shooting. There was only ever one person at a time giving direction, and everyone was focused and quiet on set when needed.
